Healthy BBQ Receipe

Since starting slimming world or shall I say attempting because I’m easily swayed in to having a chippy tea or an extra chocolate bar, I have found that making my own sauces a – taste a lot better, b – healthier for me and c – a lot cheaper. When you look at the ingredients of a BBQ sauce you haven’t a clue what half the ingredients are or why they actually need to be in there once you start making your own.

I had never used Passata until about a year ago and now I find it has so many uses, this BBQ sauce recipe, bolognase sauces and pasta sauces. Its so cheap as well so I always have a few stocked up in my cupboard. I mainly use this sauce for hunters chicken but it could also be used for pulled pork in the slow cooker, mmmm lovely.

Lets get on to the recipe, you might think there is a quite a few ingredients but there cupboard foods which you can re use each time and you only need to buy the Passata each time. So the ingredients you will need are,

  • 1 carton of Passata
  • 5 tablespoons of sweetener
  • 3 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • pinch of mustard powder
Add all the ingredients to a pan and mix well bringing to the boil. Once boiling reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes. The sauce should then become thicker, just give it a little taste and see if it needs any extra seasoning. If not then its ready for you to serve.
As I said I usually use mine for hunters chicken so I will pour this over my chicken which I would of already wrapped in bacon and cheese and then place in the oven for around 30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked.
I would love to know how you use your BBQ sauce and also how you found this sauce if you decide to make it.
